What is DNS Resolver (Layman’s term)?
Since the first time you’re born on this cyberspace world,
you’ve been taught to type host name or domain name
or even URL to the browser address field and press go.
Eg. for google.com as domain name, http://google.com
Behind this google.com there’s several servers acting on his behalf.
Compared to human, we have brain, hand, body, ass and so on.
Each part works on their own but serve as one.
Of course each part has their own name.
Each server has their own IP address. Eg. 127.0.0.1
What’s connecting domain name and their IPs is called DNS.
Here, a list of records which IP belongs to which domain are stored.
So now, by utilizing the DNS,
it’s possible know which IPs belong to a domain.
This is called DNS Lookup.
It’s also possible to find domain names of an IP adrress,
by using a technique called Reverse DNS Lookup.
